Badhaai Ho – A Sweet And Funny Family Entertainer

I must say that I love the kind of films Ayushman Khurrana has been doing since 2015. He is one actor who seems to choose films for content, and he doesn’t really mind not being the center of attention. Dum Laga Ke Haisha and Shubh Mangal Saavdhaan had as much scope for Bhumi Pednekar and other character artistes apart from him, while in Bareilly Ki Barfi he willingly stepped aside and let Rajkummar Rao hog the limelight. Yet, in all these films (and everything else he has done), he makes an impression, albeit quietly. And now, Badhaai Ho too finds a place in this list.

96 – Poetry In Motion

A smile on my face and unshed tears in my eyes, that was how I walked out of the cinema hall after watching 96. The smile was for being able to witness such a beautiful portrayal of the emotion called love on-screen after a long time. The tears were for the fact such love stories – which breaks your heart but also makes you deliriously happy – have become a rarity in our movies. The last time I responded with so much intensity to a love story was for last year’s Mayaanadhi (Malayalam), while in Tamil it was for (though it doesn’t really come under the same league). And now, 96 comes in the list one of the best romantic films I have ever come across.

Celebrating Chinmayi Sripaada – Random Playlist

The one person whose Twitter page I have been constantly refreshing over the past one week is that of the singer/voice-over artiste/entrepreneur Chinmayi Sripaada. I have always adored her as a singer and a dubbing artiste, but it’s only after I joined Twitter about 1.5 years ago that I began to admire the kind of person she is. She always seemed to me like a person who doesn’t hesitate to speak her mind, even if she has to face brickbats for it. Even as I write this she is facing flak for her participation in the #MeToo moment that has taken India by storm. As much as I want to dedicate a post to it, I have been having a very busy week with exams, so I just thought of doing a small, quick tribute for this wonderful soul by putting up some of my random favorite Chinmayi songs from pmy playlist. Nothing can fight negativity as much as some really good music, so happy listening!

Pyaar Prema Kaadhal – The Final Stretch ALMOST Ruins This Otherwise Sensible Rom-Com Tamil Cinema Badly Needed

Of late, Tamil cinema has been churning out quite a few interesting films spanning different genres like Aruvi, Aramm, Meyaadha Maan, Vikram Vedha and so on. But I don’t think we got a full-blown rom-com that would appeal to today’s generation like, say, OK Kanamani, which was way back in 2015. Surprisingly, they have been coming from Telugu cinema – usually known for its unrealistic action films with machete-wielding heroes. In just the last two years they have given us Fidaa, Tholi Prema, Geetha Govindamand so on, apart from the ones I haven’t watched yet, like Chi La Sow. And now finally, debutant director Elan has come up with Pyaar Prema Kaadhal in Tamil – a refreshing, relatable rom-com.
