2 Years of Tales’n’Tunes!!!

Yaayyy! I have completed two years of blogging! So proud of myself! I have a history of starting things and not finishing them. Be it Bharatanatyam, playing the violin and keyboard, swimming or Bollywood dancing – I always lost interest midway and stopped learning further. The only thing I actually carried forward and studied for a long time was music, because I was that passionate about it. And now, I think I have discovered another thing that I love doing – running this blog. When I started this blog, I wasn’t sure where I was going to go with this. I thought of it as just something to keep me occupied during my after-12th-boards holidays. But, as I have mentioned before, this sucked me in.

Books, movies, music – these are things I have always loved. But writing about them has drastically changed the way I look at them. They are not things I just use to keep myself entertained anymore. Rather than switching off my brain, I have it working actively, trying to process and make sense of everything I watch, read and listen. Earlier I used to be like, “I loved that film,” “That was an okay book,” “This song sucks.” Now I have begun to wonder why I respond to them that way. Now if you ask me whether I liked a film or no, I am not sure I will be able to answer it in one word.

To all my readers who have liked, commented and retweeted my posts – THANK YOU! You guys are my motivation. Words cannot describe the feeling you get when someone takes out time to read and appreciate your work. Keep reading, guys! And I promise to keep writing!

HAPPY 2019!!!

Whoa, 2018 is over already! And so is my birthday (I turned 20 yesterday). How time flies! More than the fact that 2018 is over, it is the fact that I am no longer in my teens which excites me and scares me at the same time. My little sister kept running around the house screaming that I am now ‘old’ and no longer a kid. Though I laughed in response, I can’t help but be a little wistful that I am no longer a carefree child anymore. Slowly but surely, I will have to take up more responsibilities, start planning about where I will do my Masters, thinking of career options and so on. All these thoughts, the ideas of a new, independent life, excites me. At the same time, the thought of taking up these responsibilities, and not being able to expect my parents to magically be able to make things alright for me when I am in trouble, scares me very much.

Unlike 2017, which was a very happening year for me, 2018 was relatively peaceful. Sure enough, there were a lot of ups and downs, lots of laughter and a few tears but overall, life was stable. I made some new friends, met up with old friends, had our share of arguments as well as fun, and made a lot of new memories, some of which were good, while some were unpleasant, but they have definitely taught me a lot and have had an impact on the kind of person I am now.

Now, I am eagerly looking forward to see what 2019 holds in store for me. Hopefully, there will be more surprises and less shocks, but whatever it is, I think I am ready to face it. Bring it on, 2019! To all those out there who read my blog, a big thank you and HAPPY NEW YEAR! Hope this year rocks for all of us!

RAJAMOULI! IN MY UNIVERSITY!!!

“Kindly rise to welcome our chief guest.” The emcee needn’t have said those words, every one of us in the huge auditorium were already on our feet, craning our necks to catch a glimpse of the man most of us had been eagerly awaiting all this while. He walks in, and suddenly the auditorium is drowned in screams and shouts. Cellphones come out, and pics are clicked. The man who entered was dressed in a simple manner, on the first glance he looks like any one of us. No one would look at him and guess that hiding behind this simplicity is a man who created – not just a movie – but a national phenomenon. You usually hear this kind of cheering for an actor. SS Rajamouli is probably one of the rare few filmmakers who get such a welcome from an auditorium filled with 18-20 year olds. I know I said I won’t be posting for a week, but this is something I just HAVE TO write about – the arrival of the man behind Bahubali, Eega, Magadheera and so on in our institution, and actually getting to interact with him.

When I Awoke – My First Attempt At A Short Story

‘It came out of nowhere, and hit me on my head.’ This was the prompt we were given in class, and we had to craft a short story around it. This is what I came up with in the one hour I had. I’m not really a short story person. My comfort zone lies in analyzing already existing works, which is what I do here.  Anyway, here goes…. Bonus Speculative Post: The Scenes That Are Missing From Bahubali 2

Just came across this lovely post by Margaret of Don’tCallItBollywood, and couldn’t help but reblog it. To be honest, I couldn’t have put it in better words. Jai Mahishmati!

dontcallitbollywood

I just can’t resist writing this!  We’ve been all talking and agreeing in the comments that there were big character moments “missing” from Bahubali 2.  And I was suddenly struck with inspiration and I just have to write my version of how those scenes would go.
